Safety Guidelines

Most profile information is not verified by MedRM. MedRM verifies that users sign up with a recognized institutional email address and confirms ownership of that address, but does not verify professional credentials, identity, training status, or any other profile claims. You are responsible for conducting your own due diligence before committing to a roommate arrangement.

Your safety is important. MedRM is a platform to connect with other healthcare professionals, but you are responsible for vetting potential roommates and ensuring compatibility.

Understanding Match Statuses

MedRM shows you three types of matches to help you manage all your interactions:

  • Roommate Matches: People you've already matched with and shared contact information with. These are connections confirmed by both parties
  • Waiting on You: People who sent you a roommate request and are waiting for your response. You can accept (to match), decline, or ignore these requests
  • Waiting on Them: People you sent a roommate request to and are waiting for their response. You can withdraw your request at any time if they haven't responded

Before You Match

  • Ask questions: Once matched, contact info is shared. Use email or LinkedIn to learn about their background, lifestyle, and rotation details before committing.
  • Verify information: Ask for contact information and cross-reference with their institution if possible
  • Check their profile: Review their full profile, including training year, specialty, and lifestyle preferences
  • Trust your gut: If something feels off, it's okay to decline a match
  • Use video chat: Before committing, consider a video call to ensure you're both comfortable

Red Flags to Watch For

  • Unwilling to answer basic questions about their background
  • Asking for money or payment upfront
  • Inconsistencies in their story or profile information
  • Pressure to make decisions quickly
  • Requests for personal information beyond what's reasonable (SSN, bank details, etc.)
  • Inappropriate or harassing messages
  • Claiming to be a healthcare professional without clear details about their role

Communication Safety

  • Don't share personal details early: Avoid sharing your phone number, address, or financial info with unverified matches
  • Meet in person safely: If you decide to meet your potential roommate before moving in, meet in a public location
  • Tell someone: Let a friend or colleague know who you're connecting with

Housing Agreement Tips

  • MedRM does NOT handle housing agreements or leases
  • You are responsible for negotiating your own housing arrangement
  • Get everything in writing (rental terms, payment splits, move-in/out dates)
  • Clarify utility costs, shared spaces, and house rules in advance
  • Consider a brief written agreement even between friends

If Something Goes Wrong

  • Report the user: Use the report feature in the app to flag inappropriate behavior
  • Block them: You can block users to prevent further communication
  • Email me: Email [email protected] with details if you experience harassment or safety concerns
  • Seek help: If you experience illegal activity or serious safety concerns, contact local law enforcement

Important Reminders

  • MedRM verifies institutional email domain and ownership only, credentials, professional licenses, training status, and other profile claims are not verified
  • MedRM does not conduct background checks or criminal screening
  • You are responsible for independently verifying any claims a potential roommate makes
  • MedRM is not responsible for housing disputes or roommate conflicts
  • Always protect your personal safety above all else

Managing Your Content

  • Delete trips: You can delete any trip at any time. Deleted trips will no longer appear in searches or matching
  • Delete notifications: You can delete individual notifications from your notification history to clear past messages
  • Withdraw roommate requests: On the "Waiting on Them" page, you can withdraw roommate requests you've sent to users who haven't responded yet
  • Delete your account: You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from Account Settings → Delete My Account
  • View your data: Check what data is stored about you anytime through Account Settings → View My Data
