Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

Who can use MedRM?

MedRM is exclusively for healthcare students and professionals: medical students, PA students, residents, travel nurses, PT students, etc.

Matching & Profiles

How accurate is profile information?

MedRM verifies that every user signs up with a recognized institutional email (school or hospital) and confirms they own that address. However, credentials, training status, specialty, and other profile claims are not verified. Conduct your own due diligence before committing to a roommate arrangement. See the Safety Guidelines for tips.

What if someone sends me a roommate request but I don't want to room with them?

You can decline any incoming request without explanation and the other person won't be notified of the reason. Your contact info is never shared unless both sides agree. If someone's behavior is inappropriate, you can report or block them using the report feature on their profile.

How do I get in touch with a match?

When you and another user match, your contact details are shared so you can reach out directly to coordinate housing.

Someone already has a roommate. Why do they still show up?

Because they may still have part of their trip open. If someone is in town June 16-25 but only paired with a roommate for June 20-25, they're still looking for the 16th-20th, so they'll appear to anyone whose dates overlap that open window. Their card shows who they've already paired with and which dates are still open. When someone's whole trip is covered, they drop out of search automatically.

What are arrival and departure times for?

On each trip you can optionally add the time you'll arrive at and leave your housing, in the local time of your destination. They're shown on your match card to help roommates coordinate, especially when two stays only partly overlap. For example, if you leave at 1 PM and the next roommate arrives at 4 PM, you may overlap on the calendar but never actually be in the place at the same time. Times are estimates and travel plans change, so always confirm the exact details directly with your roommate before counting on them.

Can I change my trip dates after I've matched?

Trip dates lock once you have an active roommate match, so a date change can't blindside someone you've already agreed to room with. To change them, end the pairing for that trip in your Travel Hub first. That frees up the dates so you can edit them. Your arrival and departure times stay editable at all times.

Housing & Logistics

What happens when I delete a trip?

Deleting a trip removes it right away along with any roommate pairings. Any pending roommate requests tied to that trip are automatically declined, and the other person is notified. Deleting a trip can't be undone, so only delete one you're sure you're no longer going on.

Does MedRM handle housing arrangements?

No. MedRM is a matching platform only. Once connected with a roommate, lease terms, payment, move-in dates, and all logistics are handled directly between parties. Written agreements are recommended.

Is there a fee to use MedRM?

Nope! MedRM is free to use!

What if there's a dispute with a roommate?

Disputes are between you and your roommate. Direct resolution or mediation is recommended. For illegal activity or safety concerns, contact local authorities.

Roommate pairing

How does pairing work?

You pair up one-to-one. When you and another person both agree to room together for a trip, you're matched and your contact details are shared so you can coordinate housing directly. There's nothing to set up — the pairing happens automatically the moment you both say yes.

Can I have more than one roommate?

One roommate at a time for any given dates. But a longer stay can be filled by different people across different parts of it — if you're in town March through May and pair with someone for March only, April and May stay open and you can pair with someone else for those dates. Two people are never matched to share the same place over the same days.

How do I stop looking once I've found someone?

Each trip in your Travel Hub has a “Looking for a roommate” switch. Turn it off and that trip stops showing up in other people's searches, while your other trips keep looking. You keep any roommate you've already paired with.

How do I leave a match?

Open the trip in your Travel Hub and choose “Withdraw from this match.” Your roommate is notified, and those dates open back up so you can match with someone new.

Privacy & Data

What information is collected?

Collected information includes name, email, rotation/conference details, housing preferences, lifestyle information, and other details you provide. See the Privacy Policy for complete details.

Can I delete my account and data?

Yes. Go to Account Settings → Delete My Account and confirm by typing "DELETE". All data is permanently removed from servers upon deletion.

Can I download my data?

Yes. Go to Account Settings → Download My Data to export all your information as a JSON file.

Is my data used for research?

De-identified, aggregated data (for example, distribution of training years or trip patterns) may be used for academic or public health research. Individual identities are never disclosed. Any research involving human subjects follows applicable IRB requirements. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

Safety & Reporting

What if I suspect someone is impersonating a healthcare professional?

Report the user immediately using the in-app report feature. Verified reports of users impersonating healthcare professionals or otherwise misusing the platform can result in a permanent account ban.

What should I do if I experience harassment?

Report the user immediately using the in-app report feature, and decline or disconnect from them to stop further interaction. Threatening or illegal behavior should be reported to local authorities.

How does institutional email verification work?

Every user signs up with an email from a recognized medical school, teaching hospital, or university and confirms they own that email address. All .edu addresses qualify, as do major hospital systems like Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, Cedars-Sinai, and hundreds more. See the Verification Policy for details.

Does MedRM verify credentials?

No. MedRM does not verify professional licenses, credentials, training status, or any other claims users make about themselves. You are responsible for conducting your own due diligence before committing to any roommate arrangement.

Does MedRM conduct background checks?

No background checks, criminal screening, or verification of past conduct is performed. See the Safety Guidelines for tips on vetting potential roommates.
